I am a lecturer in Education at the University of Canberra, I have a teaching and administration background in early childhood and primary education. I have worked in government schools, Catholic Education and the Independent Schools sectors in Queensland and N.S.W. over the past 20 years. Recently, I held the position of Senior Education Officer for Student Welfare and Student Support in the NSW Department of Education and Training. I currently lecturer of science and technology education in the undergraduate and postgraduate education programs at the University of Canberra.
I am currently completing my PhD, A critical discourse analysis of teenage motherhood in one Australian school setting, at the University of Canberra.
Research interests
My research interests include gender and sexuality, pro-feminist discourses, popular culture and media, science and technology studies, sociology of education, discourse analysis, CDA, participatory methodology, complexity theory, social justice and student wellbeing.
Key theorists used
My research is influenced and draws from theoretical fields of Michel Foucault’s ethics, biopolitics, citizenship, social policy, and queer theory; Judith Butler’s ideas of social construction of gender and performativity; Teun Van Dijk’s and Norman Fairclough’s conceptualisation of discourse and social change.
