Contemporary Theory, Poststructuralism & Governmentality

Special Interest Group, Australian Association for Research in Education

An international network open to researchers from all disciplines who are applying the work of radical European theorists to education.

Theorists used by researchers in this network include Foucault, Deleuze, Agamben, Bourdieu, Derrida, Habermas, Heidegger, Agamben, Butler and others. This network also includes those who are applying Foucault's notion of governmentality both directly and via the work of others such as Hunter, Dean, Rose, Gordon.
Anybody engaged in educational research which centres around this kind of theory is most welcome to join this network.
Members can link up with each other, form specific interest groups, post to the main forum or small group forums, post blog entries and notices of events. The main forum can be used to post publications, resources and calls for papers as well as for discussion of any other topics of general interest not covered in the small groups.

This group is for the discussion of any aspect of Foucault's work in relation to education.

My field is mainly queer issues in religion, so I found the passage in Chapter 1 about the Christian pastorals very interesting. "...the Christian pastoral also sought to produce specific effects on desire, by the mere fact of transforming it - fu...
Robert thank you very much for this opportunity and thanks for the wonderful format you have set up for the discussion. Few words in response to your question: The explanation may be correct as a personal genealogy of the book, but for sure the si...
Dispositif The word is indeed being used in a 'technical sense'. This is indicated by the fact that in an interview on HOS Foucault is asked directly by the interviewer about the methodological function of the term 'dispositif de sexualité'. Fouca...
